Nominate a Good Guy

Each year at the Tournament we recognize one "Good Guy". The nominations generally come from people who have participated in the tournament. In order to nominate a "Good Guy" you need to know what a Good Guy is. Our definition of a "Good Guy" is a guy who was like the guy the tournament was named for. His name was Brooks Becker. Here's what he was like:

  • He gave you his smile instead of his problems
  • He made you laugh
  • He led by example
  • He was kind to everybody
  • He was a kid at heart
  • He had moral conviction
  • He knew right from wrong and he'd remind you of that if he thought you needed it
  • He looked out for the people most other people ignored
  • You felt better whenever you were around him
  • He didn't do things "half-assed"
  • He gave you his best at home, at work and at play

A Good Guy's family is the most important part of a Good Guy's life. Everything he does is for his family. His faith is his source of inspiration. It's not necessarily where he spends his Sunday mornings, it's how he treats people every day.

That brings us to community. Good Guys are involved. They volunteer for charities, they help you move, they coach little league. They are everyone's friend.

Some years we get more than one nomination for a Good Guy but there have been a couple of years where we never received a nomination. That isn't a surprise to us when it happens as "Good Guys" are not all that common.  If the person you nominate is selected as a Good Guy we will notify you and him in advance of the tournament. It is our hope that he and his immediate family can attend the dinner so that he can be recognized by the people closest to him.  The guys we call Good Guys rarely receive public recognition. In some cases the award we've given at the event is the first public recognition they've ever received, those are some of the most memorable awards we present.

Here's what the Good Guy Award winners get:

  • Recognition and free dinner for him and his immediate family at this years' GGO event.
  • An engraved plaque that says "Excelsi Regunt" - loosely translated, that's Latin for "Good Guys Rule". In small letters, at the bottom of the plaque are three small B's. They stand for Brooks Bernard Becker, the original Good Guy.
  • A "Good Guy" shirt
  • A Life Time pass to attend all future GGO events. The pass includes a free round of golf and dinner on the day of the event.
